Spooky Season Brings Fall Fun Across Indiana

Creepy. Curious. Cool!

Spooky season is under way across our museum system, offering a hair-raising array of events for visitors of all ages and scare levels.

Nearly all our locations will offer themed programs this fall — from a family-friendly evening filled with not-so-spooky creatures to a spine-tingling haunted house that is not for the faint of heart and everything in between.

We invite you to bring your family to enjoy all the eerie excitement, starting with these highlights.

The Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site in New Albany boasts one of southern Indiana’s longest running haunted house experiences. The House of Anguish, sponsored by the Friends of the Culbertson Mansion, began 1985, will run from 7-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 24.

Inside the mansion’s carriage house, visitors will trudge through the murky aftermath of the Great Flood of 1937, finding monstrous thrills and terrifying chills lurking in every corner. This frighteningly popular experience has been selling out for years. Are you brave enough to enter? Come – only if you dare!

In central Indiana, the Indiana State Museum will come alive after dark during Night at the Boo Bash. This beloved annual event will return from 6-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, offering ghoulish good times across all three floors, led by a cast of quirky characters inspired by iconic museum artifacts. As Fred the Mastodon looks on, visitors can step inside the scream booth to measure their shrieks or use funky instruments to create spooky sounds. Connie Fusion’s spooktacular science show is sure to get a big reaction, and families can stop by Dr. Rose’s Mad Science Lab to make their own vial of light.

As guests creep through Ross the Sloth’s Giggle Graveyard, they can use a UV flashlight to illuminate whimsical epitaphs that are sure to tickle a funny bone. Everyone is encouraged to come in their favorite Halloween outfits and compete for prizes in the costume contest before hitting the dance floor to twist and shout with the sounds of monstrous music.

Heading north to Rome City, Owl-O-Ween will take place from 4-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site. Visitors can come face to face with real owls and other creatures of the night. Children are encouraged to dress in their best warm costume and head out on the trick-or-treat trail to collect treats and play fun games. Guests can bring a flashlight to explore Wildflower Woods as the sun sets.

Fall is also a fantastic time of year for an Indiana road trip to take in the incredible colors of the autumn foliage as you travel from New Harmony to Nashville to Geneva and beyond.

Please visit our website for more details about these and other spooky season events throughout October. We look forward to seeing you and your family this fall!
