MADISON, Ind. — The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site will welcome spring in style with A Garden Affair on Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The annual event, sponsored by Lanier Mansion Foundation, will include a silent auction, luncheon and a talk. The event will take place at the Old Market, located at 801 W. Main St. in historic Madison, Ind.

“After a long winter, it will be fun to get out and attend this spring-related event,” said Kate Brown, Lanier Mansion Foundation president. “One of the things our guests enjoy most each year is the way our board members use their personal china, glassware and decorative items to create a creative atmosphere at each luncheon table.”

Following the luncheon, Brandon Taylor of Madison-based City Hens will inspire guests with a talk titled Foodscaping: Eat Your Front Yard. Foodscaping, sometimes called edible landscaping, is a type of landscaping in which edible foods are grown. Instead of just planting shrubs, trees, vines, grasses and ground covers, foodscaping involves adding edible plants that add interest, color, texture and taste.

At 11 a.m., guests may peruse silent auction items and enjoy complimentary mimosas. Lunch will be served at noon followed by the talk at 1 p.m. A cash wine bar will be available.

“Some of the exciting silent auction items this year include a one-week stay at a condo on Amelia Island in Florida, various works of art and several exceptional items for the home, garden and entertaining, to name a few,” added Brown.

Admission is $30 per person and seating is limited. Tickets may be purchased before April 5 at the Lanier Mansion Gift Shop, located at 601 W. First Street, Madison, Ind. Reservations may be made by calling at 812.273.0556.

All proceeds from the program will benefit the maintenance of the gardens at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site.
