White Supremacy and Environmental Racism
IUPUI Graduate Research Assistant Benjamin Clark will begin his talk with a brief history of white supremacy and its origins on the North American continent. He will demonstrate how these legacies shape many of the social issues facing our country today, including relationships to the environment. Looking at how the power of the state shapes and enforces environmental policy, Clark helps audiences see how, due to systemic racism, Black and Brown communities have been disproportionately negatively impacted by pollution, climate change and natural disasters. Discussions on environmental racism and its effects on their lives and community will follow.
