T.C. Steele State Historic Site to host Steele’s Country Christmas

NASHVILLE, Ind. — The T.C. Steele State Historic Site will open their home to friends and neighbors for its annual holiday celebration, Steele’s Country Christmas. On Sunday, Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Large Studio of the historic site, visitors will be welcomed into the fully decorated historic studio and house.

Children and families will have the opportunity to visit and take photos with St. Nicholas and Belsnickel from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

“Belsnickeling was a common southern Indiana tradition,” said Andrea deTarnowsky, T.C. Steele Historic Site manager. “Belsnickel would go from house to house, playing tricks and leaving treats for the good children, and lumps of coal for the naughty ones.”

From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. guests will enjoy cookies, mulled cider, Christmas card and ornament decorating, and a music program by 2 Daves, who will perform traditional holiday jazz tunes.

Members of the Indiana State Museum and the Friends of T.C. Steele are admitted to the program free of charge. All other guests will be charged general admission to experience Steele’s Country Christmas, which includes a tour of the historic buildings. Families will receive a special discount rate.
