State Historic Site to ‘Murder on the Whitewater Canal’

METAMORA, Ind. – The public is invited to grab their detective hats for Murder on the Whitewater Canal, an interactive Murder Mystery on Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17.
The mystery, beginning in downtown Metamora, Ind., will be hosted by Whitewater Canal and the Whitewater Canal Byway Association.
“This is an official Bicentennial Legacy Project that will take place during the same weekend as the Torch Relay through Franklin County,” said Candy Yurcak, director of the Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway. “We wanted to celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial by shining a spotlight on our region’s fascinating canal era. What better way than making it a backdrop for a fun whodunit-style mystery game?”
The year is 1848 and the townsfolk of Metamora are celebrating the new Whitewater Canal president aboard the Ben Franklin III Canal Boat. Tragedy strikes when shots ring out and a body is found. Participants will help track down the killer while learning about the historical towns along the primary route of the Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway.
Wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres will begin on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Ben Franklin II Canal Boat with the action beginning at 7 p.m. Participants will receive a Detective’s Booklet with a list of suspects to be questioned at each location, a schedule, directions and community information.
On Saturday, participants will kick off at 8 a.m. to collect clues at stops along the canal including Lawrenceburg, Harrison, Brookville, Metamora, Connersville and Cambridge City, before meeting back at the park. Doors open at the Old Depot at 6 p.m. with dinner and the big reveal at 7 p.m.
Wine and tastings will be provided by Ertel Cellars Winery, J&J Winery and Legacy Lane Vineyard. Music will be provided by Sam Shuck.
