Limberlost to host ‘The Limberlost Then and Now’ exhibition

Geneva, Ind. – As part of the state’s bicentennial celebration, the public is invited to The Limberlost Then and Now, on view July 1 through December 10, 2016 at the Limberlost Visitor Center, located at 200 E. 6th St. in Geneva, Ind. The exhibition will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The exhibition will put a focus on the Limberlost wetland restoration projects that started in 1997. It will feature a poem that Gene Stratton-Porter wrote for the Indiana Centennial, Limberlost Invitation and some of her photographs of the Limberlost Swamp.
“The Friends of the Limberlost encourage everyone to enjoy the Limberlost much like it was enjoyed by Gene Stratton-Porter by participating in a unique art exhibit at Limberlost State Historic Site,” Randy Lehman, Limberlost State Historic Site manager said.
The public may submit artwork, poetry, photos, paintings or sculptures featuring how the Limberlost once was or how it is today, connecting the audience to the theme of the exhibition. Entries will be accepted until October 1.
An official entry form for the Limberlost Then and Now multi-media exhibition must accompany any entry. The entry form may be accessed by contacting Curt Burnette at [email protected] or downloaded at www.limberlost.weebly.com.
The exhibition is free. The public is invited to visit the Limberlost Visitor Center to vote on their favorite public piece.

About the Limberlost Swamp
Indiana’s 13,000 acre Limberlost Swamp, located in southern Adams County and northern Jay County was ditched and drained by 1913, causing Gene Stratton-Porter, one of Indiana’s most celebrated authors, to move to Noble County. Today the Limberlost Swamp restoration projects have returned a large portion of the Limberlost to a natural state that Porter would recognize and appreciate.

Limberlost State Historic Site in Adams County and the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in Jay County are located near Geneva in northeastern Indiana. Part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Limberlost admission is free for Indiana State Museum & Historic Site members. General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children. The Historic Site is located at 200 E. 6th Street in Geneva, Ind., just off U.S. Highway 27.
