GENEVA, Ind. – The public is invited to the Limberlost State Historic Site on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for an early New Year’s Eve celebration. The highlight of the event will be a countdown to a noon New Year balloon drop and pop.

“Our daytime event allows families to celebrate together before parents head out for evening parties,” said Connie Smuts, Limberlost State Historic Site tour guide. “It may be light outside, but inside our Visitor Center we have New Year’s midnight merry-making at noon.”

Before the balloon drop and pop, children will make a personalized paper plate noisemaker. Throughout the event they can try their hands at carnival-style games and win New Year’s noisemakers and other prizes.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Admission is $3 per child. Adults are free.

Limberlost State Historic Site in Adams County and the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in Jay County are located near Geneva in northeastern Indiana. Part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Limberlost admission is free for Indiana State Museum & Historic Site members. General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children. The Historic Site is located at 200 E. 6th Street in Geneva, Ind., just off U.S. Highway 27.
