INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, Dec. 22) – On Dec. 31, families, kids and kids-at-heart can welcome 2018 at Family New Year’s Eve at the Indiana State Museum from 6 to 9 p.m. This is the 20th year for the event.

The family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration will feature fun activities for the whole family, including a clown car race, face painting, a photo booth, a trapeze artist craft, a roving Abe Lincoln and more. The Santa Claus Express train will also be running for guests to ride, and all of the museum galleries will be open.

The earlier countdown to the New Year – at 8 p.m. instead of midnight – allows even young children to enjoy New Year’s Eve festivities. At 8 p.m., guests will count down and 1,500 balloons will drop from the ceiling in the Great Hall.

“Family New Year’s Eve is one of our favorite events at the museum,” Katelyn Coyne, the museum’s organizer for the event, said. “The museum really comes to life as more than 1,000 guests enjoy games, tour the galleries and of course see all of those balloons drop. It’s a really special night.”

Cost for the event is $9 for members, $15 for non-members, and free for children under the age of 4. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (317) 232-1637.
