ROME CITY, Ind. – Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site invites children of all ages to attend the annual Owl-oween on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event looks past the myths and scary stories to discover the truth about bats, owls and other creatures of the night.

Participants will walk throughout the property stopping at activity stations to collect candy and learn more about animals not normally seen during the day, including bats, raccoons, coyotes and others. Children are encouraged to attend in costume and bring a flashlight.

The Kendallville Public Library will be on hand on Friday night to provide candy and storytelling for visitors. On Friday and Saturday, tour stops will include The Owls of Owl-oween, web crawling and spooky stories! The Owls of Owl-oween is presented by Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab, who will be on site to showcase several native species of owls. Children may participate in an owl pellet dissection activity, create their own crafts and have a chance to meet Gene’s pet blue jay, Hezekiah.

Admission is $4 per person. Children ages 4 and younger are free. Site admission is not included.
