Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site to host Owl-oween
ROME CITY, Indiana (Oct. 1, 2019) — Children of all ages are invited to attend the annual Owl-oween event at Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 12. This event looks past the myths and scary stories to discover the truth about bats, owls and other creatures of the night.
Participants will walk throughout the property, stopping at different stations to learn more about animals not normally seen during the day. Children are encouraged to attend in costume and collect treats along the way.
Tour stops include “The Owls of Owl-oween,” “Web Crawling” and spooky stories. The Kendallville Public Library will also have a station on Friday. Children will participate in an owl pellet dissection activity and create their own crafts, plus meet Gene’s pet Blue Jay, Hezekiah. Soarin’ Hawk will showcase the winged creatures of the night.
Admission is $4 for members and $5 for non-members, and includes all treats, snacks and take home craft activities. Visitors may arrive any time between 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. to explore the site. Cabin tours are not included. Flashlights are suggested to help guide participants.
