CORYDON, Ind. – The public is invited to Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War, on view June 24 through July 8, 2017, at the First State Office Building, located at 417 N. Mulberry St. in Corydon, Ind. The exhibition will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

“We are excited to share the details of Lincoln’s life with the people of southern Indiana,” said Bec Riley, Corydon Capitol State Historic Site administrator. “The exhibition will give us the chance to tell the story of a local boy who made it big.”

Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War explores Lincoln’s struggle to resolve the questions that divided America at its most perilous moment: Was the United States truly one nation, or was it a confederacy of separate, sovereign states? How could a country founded on the belief that “all men are created equal” tolerate slavery? In a national crisis, would civil liberties be secure?

Lincoln’s decisions about these three intertwined wartime crises reinvented the Constitution and the promise of American life. Visitors to the exhibition will develop a more complete understanding of Lincoln as president and the Civil War as the nation’s gravest constitutional crisis.

The exhibition is organized into five main topics: oath of office, divided, bound, dissent and endures.

To date, the exhibition has traveled to nearly 200 venues across the country.

The exhibition is included with site admission and is open to the public.

Corydon Capitol State Historic Site is located in Harrison County in southern Indiana. Part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Corydon became the Indiana Territory capitol in 1813 and Indiana’s first state capital in 1816.
