CORYDON, Ind. – The public is invited to attend the inaugural Historic Tavern Crawl hosted by Corydon Capitol State Historic Site on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.

The walking tour will explore the history of many former taverns in Indiana’s first capital. Enjoy period-authentic tavern drinks at several stops including Green Tree Tavern, David Craig Tavern, Conrad Tavern and more.

“Corydon was home to more than a dozen taverns during the First State Capital Period,” said Laura Spalding, Corydon Capitol State Historic Site program developer. “Guests can learn why there were so many taverns here, learn about the men and women who operated them and sample some drinks that might have been enjoyed by Indiana’s earliest settlers.”

The event aims to show guests that taverns were much more than drinking establishments, especially in a town where politicians were in abundance during the capital period.

Admission is $20 per adult, ages 21 and older. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the site at 812.738.4890.

Corydon Capitol State Historic Site is located in Harrison County in southern Indiana. Part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Corydon became the Indiana Territory capitol in 1813 and Indiana’s first state capital in 1816.
