METAMORA, Ind. – Due to structural circumstances at the historic Duck Creek Aqueduct, also known as the Metamora Aqueduct and Whitewater Canal Aqueduct, rides on the Ben Franklin III Canal Boat at Whitewater Canal State Historic Site have been suspended until 2018.

“Although the emergency repairs to the aqueduct have been completed, this larger scope of work will stabilize the aqueduct for the long term,” said Laura Minzes, associate vice president of state historic sites. “We have accepted the bid of Duncan Robertson, Inc., from Franklin, Ind. for this work.”

Permits are in place and other contracting work is occurring. Construction will begin in the fall, and the Ben Franklin III Canal Boat will be operational by the start of the season next year with a stronger Whitewater Canal Aqueduct.
