INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 23, 2018) – This February, art lovers and rock collectors alike will find events perfect for them at the Indiana State Museum.

The 15th annual Indiana Art Fair will take place on Feb. 10 and 11 at the museum. Approximately 60 different Hoosier artists will attend the event to sell their wares and discuss their craft with guests. While attendees will find more traditional art such as paintings or jewelry, they’ll also find some more unusual offerings – including insects displayed in glass, pressed flowers, a ceramicist who includes horse hair in some pieces, leatherworking art (such as Megan Winn’s, shown left), and more.

New this year, the art fair will feature an emerging artist expo, with several emerging Hoosier artists’ work on display and for sale.

The following weekend, Feb. 16 through 18, visitors to the museum can experience GeoFest, an event that features a chance to purchase all types of gems, fossils, rocks, minerals, jewelry and more. About 20 different vendors from around the nation will attend GeoFest, and special programming on those days will allow guests to explore geology by making their own geodes or jewelry, seeing fluorescing minerals, and digging up discoveries in a mock dig pit, along with other activities.

On Feb. 17, the museum staff will also offer a Webelos Earth Rocks Adventure for Cub Scouts. During this activity, Cub Scouts can answer questions in their packets as they participate in various activities to fulfill the Earth Rocks Adventure requirements.

“We want to provide guests with experiences that allow them to be exposed to and explore topics that stimulate their interests and talents,” said Cathy Ferree, president and CEO of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. “Through the Indiana Art Fair and GeoFest, our guests have a unique opportunity to interact with dozens of artists, mineralogists and other vendors to really dive into those subjects.”

Both festivals are included with purchase of general museum admission, which also grants guests access to all museum galleries. A special Scout price of $5 per scout and their immediate family members will be offered as well during GeoFest.

The Indiana Art Fair is presented by Old National Bank and supported by the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the City of Indianapolis. GeoFest is supported by Irving Materials, Inc.
