EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The public is invited to Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War, on view now through April 16, 2017, at Angel Mounds State Historic Site, located at 8215 Pollack Ave. in Evansville, Ind. The exhibition will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

“We are excited to share this exhibition with the people of Southwest Indiana, detailing the life of a local boy who made it big,” said Mike Linderman, Angel Mounds State Historic Site manager.

Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War explores Lincoln’s struggle to resolve the questions that divided America at its most perilous moment: Was the United States truly one nation, or was it a confederacy of separate, sovereign states? How could a country founded on the belief that “all men are created equal” tolerate slavery? In a national crisis, would civil liberties be secure?

Lincoln’s decisions about these three intertwined wartime crises reinvented the Constitution and the promise of American life. Visitors to the exhibition will develop a more complete understanding of Lincoln as president and the Civil War as the nation’s gravest constitutional crisis.

The exhibition is organized into five main exhibit areas: oath of office, divided, bound, dissent and endures.

To date, the exhibition has traveled to nearly 200 venues across the country.

The exhibition is included with site admission and is open to the public.
