Remember those childhood days of creating a rocket ship, school bus, house or something else entirely with a large cardboard box, some tape and a whole lot of imagination? “Cardboard Engineering,” coming to the Indiana State Museum beginning Sept. 29, is bringing those days back in a BIG way!
Bring your child – or just your own inner child – to experience this 3,000-square-foot playspace stocked with cardboard boxes of all sizes, cardboard pieces large and small, more colorful tape than you could possibly use, markers, safety scissors and much more.
Build whatever you can dream up, or find inspiration from a rotation of artifacts – like a samurai suit – from the museum’s permanent collection.
Use your own creativity, imagination and problem solving skills to create the largest piece in the room, or challenge your friends or family to a friendly competition and create the largest, smallest or most creative item in the playspace. Try building something from scratch or even build on what other visitors have left behind – it’s all up to you!
Look for future special events for adults and families alike in the playspace. Local artists and art students also will be on hand in the exhibit on select dates to help with guidance and to inspire you with their works.
Cardboard Engineering will be at the Indiana State Museum from Sept. 29 through May 27, 2019. The new experience will be included with general museum admission, which is free for museum members.
Cardboard Engineering is supported by WestRock and Republic Services.
