Q: How far in advance should I book my wedding?
A: The general rule for wedding planning is to begin at least 12 months in advance. However, your planning timeframe is largely dependent on the availability of the location at which you plan to hold the wedding and the reception. The Indiana State Museum requires that weddings and wedding receptions are booked at least 90 days in advance.

Q: Can I hire my own florist or decorator?
A:
Yes; we can also recommend professionals we've had success with in the past. We require that all things be approved by Indiana State Museum staff.

Q: Can items such as rice, doves, bubbles, butterflies, balloons or petals be thrown or released by guests at my wedding ceremony at the museum?
A:
No. The museum has a strict conservation policy which prohibits this type of activity because of the potential detriment to artifacts.

Q: Can I hire a band or disc jockey to provide music?
A:
Yes, and we can recommend professionals we've had success with in the past.

Q: What kinds of decorations are permitted inside the museum?
A:
Your decorations may be used in the museum. A partial list of the types of decorations permitted includes lights, candles in hurricane lamps, trees and flowers. Our event planners will work with you to determine other appropriate decorations and all decorations must be approved by the museum staff.

Q: Can I hold my event outdoors?
A:
Wedding ceremonies can be held outdoors, weather permitting. Additional fees apply. Cocktail receptions may be held outdoors; however, dinner receptions may not.

Q: Can we have an open bar for our guests?
A:
You are welcome to have either a cash or open bar for your guests.

Q: How do I obtain a certificate of insurance?
A:
Please check with your residential insurance agent.

Q: Can my event continue past 10:30 p.m.?
A:
A security fee of $500 per hour will apply if your event continues later than 10:30 p.m.

Q: Do I have to use a wedding coordinator?
A:
Our professional event planners are available to help you with your special day so a wedding coordinator is not necessary, but you may certainly use one.
